Last election I was on a bus in Mexico going from Oaxaca to Merida. Late in the night, the music stopped for a newsbreak. “Obama es elegido Presidente!” People on the bus began to cheer, looking towards Americans to see their reaction. A man my age looked at me and I gave him a thumbs up. That was the end of it.
For the next nine months I was overseas. I missed all the public excitement and anticipation that a new Presidency brings, not to mention the first African American Presidency.
